October 2026
Your sitter profile is live, and owners near you can now ask you for a quote. Most owners book a sitter they feel they already know a little, so the first few weeks are about building trust and getting your name in front of local pet owners. Here's how.
1. Check what owners see
On My Profile, click Public Profile View. Owners will look closely at:
- Your photos. Add clear, happy photos of you with animals. If pets can stay at your home, add photos of where they'll sleep, eat and play, and of your yard
- Your About Me. Your experience with pets, your routine, how you'll keep owners updated (a daily photo goes a long way). The AI helper on My Profile can write a first draft
- Your services and prices. These come from your sitter setup. Owners choose a service from your price guide when they ask for a quote. Use Edit your sitting rates and pets to change them
2. Share your link and QR code where pet owners are
Your link and QR code are on My Profile. Good places to share them:
- Local Facebook groups: suburb community groups, local pet and dog groups, and parents' groups. Check each group's rules, as many only allow business posts on set days
- Before the holidays: owners book sitters weeks ahead. Post four to six weeks before the school holidays, Easter and Christmas
- Vets, pet shops and groomers: ask if you can leave a flyer with your QR code on their noticeboard, or swap flyers with a local groomer or dog walker
- Dog parks and walks: carry a few small cards with your QR code. A friendly chat is the best advertising there is
- Friends, family and neighbours: send them your link and ask them to share it with anyone who has pets
3. Let an AI tool write your posts
A free AI assistant (such as Claude or ChatGPT) can turn a few facts into a friendly post. Try something like:
Write a warm, short Facebook post for my local community group. I'm a pet and house sitter in [your suburb]. I offer [your services, e.g. pet sitting at your home, drop-in visits]. I've cared for [your experience]. Owners can see my profile, prices and reviews, and ask for a quote, here: [your Greatjob link]. Under 80 words, friendly, not salesy.
Add a photo of you with a pet, check the wording sounds like you, and post.
4. What happens when an owner asks for a quote
- The owner picks a service from your price guide and sends their dates, their pets' details and an emergency contact.
- You get a text and an email with a link. Open it to see the request. We suggest a price based on your own rates; change it if the job needs more, for example extra pets or medication.
- Check the dates work, preview the quote, and press Send Quote before the deadline shown. We'll remind you halfway if you haven't replied. The owner may have asked a few sitters, so a quick, friendly quote helps.
- If the owner accepts, they pay the full price straight away, and Greatjob holds it until the job is done. We'll text you once they've paid, and their vet and emergency contact details appear in your booking.
- We suggest offering a short meet-and-greet before a longer stay, so the pets (and the owner) get to know you.
- On the first day press Start Job. At the end press Finish Job and add any extras, such as vet costs you paid. The owner approves extras before they're charged.
- Your payment is released 48 hours after you finish, and usually reaches your bank within one to two business days.
Cancellations: if the owner cancels 7 or more days before the start, they get a full refund. After that, they get 50% back and you receive your share of the half that's kept. Once the stay has started, there's no refund. If you need to cancel, the owner is always refunded in full, so only accept dates you're sure you can do.
5. Make your first stays count
- Send a photo and a short update every day. Owners love it, and it's the number one reason they come back
- Follow the owner's routine closely, and write down anything important (feeding, medication, the vet's number)
- After the stay, ask the owner to leave a review. Your first few reviews matter most
